Nigerian Diaspora Stories | #234DiasporaStories

Nigerian Diaspora stories are stories about being a Nigerian in the Diaspora. Stories of identity and belonging back ‘home’ and abroad.

We all have stories to tell, stories to share. We share the Nigerian Diaspora experience- whatever that is. But that’s the point. There is no one “Nigerian Diaspora experience”, but rather, there are stories. There are Nigerian Diaspora Stories or rather, #234DiasporaStories. Stories that tell a narrative. Stories of Nigerians in the Diaspora all around the world.

So I bet by now, you’re wondering, why “#234”? Well that one’s easy. 234 is the country code of our beloved Nigeria (and of course, we’ve gotta have the hashtag, duh). The “Diaspora” is because that’s who we are (and proudly so)! The “Stories” because their our stories and ours to tell. Our stories are diverse and multifaceted, because of that we must be cognizant of the “danger of a single story” according to renowned Nigerian Diasporan storyteller Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. As she eloquently put it:

Stories matter. Many stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign, but stories can also be used to empower and to humanize. Stories can break the dignity of a people, but stories can also repair that broken dignity.

So here at MsNigeriaDiaspora.com we tell Nigerian Diaspora stories because stories matter and sharing them inspires. These are #234DiasporaStories...

If you have stories about being a Nigerian in the Diaspora, we’d love to hear from you.
